A NEW DECADE

"You have to give up some of the past to make room for the future." Love my new Deb Stabley tile. (You can visit her site via the "Artists" links to the right!) Seems like the perfect way to ring in 30! I also spent a good amount of time pulling the silver strands from my head, but quickly realized that if I didn't stop I'd either be bald or at least left with a very bad headache! Ahhh...a new decade!

I think we're all in this alone...

...or are we?

HEARTS ABOUND

Last year, I thought I finished off this gem for good when I accidentally snapped the strongest stem. Thankfully it came back! It's a transplant from the bleeding heart Ry's "Aunt" Carol grew. She just passed away from cancer, so I'm glad to have it growing in my yard in her memory.

I recently finished off another kind of hearts...Stephen King's "Hearts in Atlantis"...took me forever to read because I'm always trying to do a hundred thousand things at once. Happy to report I've rekindled my love of reading.

I heart these hearts!

A progression of emerging hearts....

I heart when the dogwood is in bloom!!!

NO MORE MONKEYS!

The guest room. Technically, the only room in the house we've yet to do anything with. Truthfully, the only place I've found where the monkeys go into hiding when the sun goes down and I am able to enjoy peaceful, spread-eagled, "do whatever I want with the blankies", medicated sleep. No more monkeys jumping on my bed!

THE 'OL MISS

Well, I'm back from my little hiatus. I didn't really go anywhere, I'm just a busy girl! I wandered down town a bit and visited the Susquehanna. Yep, the 'Ol Miss....isn't she a beauty?

CAN THE ART PROGRAM? SERIOUSLY?

I really can't put into words how I am feeling about this situation other than to say that I am deeply disappointed. I'm not sure where I would have fit into the spectrum of things in high school had it not been for the arts. Andy Palmer, Nancy Summers, and Bob Wagner have all had a huge impact on my life. Not only did a constant exposure to the arts aid my academic achievements, namely graduating as the Whitney Point Class of 1997 Valedictorian, but the support, guidance, and inspiration of my instructors led me to pursue a career in the arts. I attended Lycoming College and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Art and certification in K-12 Art Education. I have work published in both magazine and book formats, I participate in local and national art shows, and among other accomplishments I remain an active independent artist in my local community. Yes, Whitney Point's art program means something to me. It means something to a lot of people. I beg the school board to reconsider. If we take away the arts, what will our kids actually have to read and write about? And how much of the sports program will they be cutting? -Sara Davern Mika
